December 7, 2023 --- peaq, the blockchain for real-world applications, Robert Bosch GmbH, the world's largest sensor manufacturer, and Fetch.ai, a Web3 platform for the new AI economy, unveil an innovative smart sensor implementation, the Bosch XDK110 Rapid Prototyping Kit, which enables anyone to tap advanced Web3 and AI tech to earn rewards in crypto. With one small device, anyone can turn into an active provider of valuable data on weather conditions, light and noise pollution, seismic activity, and more. The device owner can monetize this data on peaq, earning rewards in blockchain tokens while helping to bring about a paradigm shift for connected real-world infrastructure.

The collaboration is the first step towards building an open smart city paradigm where anyone or any machine can provide and receive data-based goods and services without centralized intermediaries.

The Bosch XDK110 Rapid Prototyping Kit is a miniature all-in-one sensor kit capable of measuring temperature, light pollution, and more. The device is outfitted with its own self-sovereign peaq ID, a digital identity that enables it to interact with the peaq network and connect with multiple decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePINs) on peaq. It also runs a Fetch.ai AI agent --- an intelligent piece of software enabling it to function autonomously --- to choose what DePIN to connect to at any given moment, optimizing the rewards for its owner.

Registering the agent with Agentverse, a virtual hub for engaging with AI Agents, will enable it to be discoverable to users via Fetch.ai's pioneering AI-based chat interface DeltaV. DeltaV enables users to find and connect to data, services and devices registered on the network using natural language, creating a dynamic marketplace for data that decentralized suppliers can go on to monetize.

DePIN has emerged as a new approach to setting up and managing physical infrastructure, from solar panels to AI-powered cameras and electric vehicle chargers. Instead of relying on a centralized entity to install and maintain the hardware, such projects leverage blockchain tokens as incentives to crowd-source the devices and services, empowering communities to own the infrastructure that provides them crucial services. Real-world data collection, from traffic data to noise pollution levels, are major sectors of the DePIN space --- but collecting this data requires a multitude of sensors, which often means having to purchase more hardware, and, thus, a higher entry barrier.

The implementation with peaq and Fetch.ai turns Bosch's Cross-Development-Kit (XDK) device into an all-around sensor array that can work with multiple DePINs, collecting all sorts of data and making it available via the peaq network. Running a Fetch AI Agent, it is capable of providing and selling the data where it's needed and provides the best rewards for the owner.

The technology has undergone a successful proof-of-concept trial proving the device's capability to work as an affordable, functional, and versatile DePIN hardware hub. It was showcased at a hackathon hosted by the University of Applied Sciences in Saarbrücken in late November, at which Fetch.ai presented Agentverse.

The case study further confirms Bosch's leading position as a top IoT manufacturer in the Web3 space, spearheading the push into the DePIN sector via peaq as DePINs emerge as a major new industry sector.

"DePINs have the potential of transforming the way we manage and interact with connected infrastructure," said Peter Busch, Product Owner Distributed Ledger Technologies Mobility at Robert Bosch GmbH. "The Bosch XDK device is where DePINs meet AI and IoT excellence to produce a one-of-a-kind versatile device capable of taking on a whole variety of roles. With peaq's blockchain as the data and identity backbone and Fetch's AI Agent as its 'brain', autarkic IoT devices like the XDK may result in a breakthrough that decentralized ecosystems, like the DePIN space, needed."

"The XDK implementation confirms the versatility of the Fetch.ai Agents," said Maria Minaricova, Director of Business Development at Fetch.ai. "It is a gateway into the future where our devices seamlessly leverage smart algorithms in the background. Using natural language to find and connect with the AI agents on the DeltaV platform helps us deliver great user experiences. With Bosch and peaq, we are building the infrastructure and hardware that will bring this future to life."

"The Internet of Things is quickly turning into the Economy of Things, where devices get more autonomy and economic agency," said Leonard Dorlöchter, co-founder of peaq. "This XDK implementation with Bosch and Fetch.ai is a great example of this transformation, leveraging blockchain and AI to turn a device into an economic agent optimizing rewards for its owner across multiple DePINs on peaq. We are looking forward to seeing DePINs and users adopt the XDK and to building on the momentum from this successful PoC and seeing XDK power the crowd-sourced data markets of the future."

The collaboration stems from the earlier joint efforts between the three parties as part of the Bosch-led Gaia-X moveID project, which also involves such leading industry names as Airbus, Continental, and DENSO, as well as several top Web3 teams. In September this year, the project showcased peer-to-peer electric vehicle charging and parking, which also leveraged peaq and Fetch AI Agents as part of its underlying technology stack.
